The browser extension is an amazing tool that covers almost everything a learner can dream of. Even if you are already fluent in a language, it can still help you getting the extra edge! Also, the community and support are awesome and you can really see the developers care about the users.
I've been learning Korean on and off since 2011, but got stuck when I had about 3800 vocab cards (anki) and couldn't read anything and realised I also had no listening skills. So I'm trying again with a more immersive approach, and so far loving Migaku for this.
Just great!
The Migaku addons have played a huge part in supporting me all the way to fluency. Excited to see everything that’s coming up!

Model of a Modern Major General
Over the span of one year I was able to achieve near native-like comprehension to content. For two years before that time, I was relying on Duolingo and only achieved a decimal of the progress compared to using Migaku.
I love you, Migaku. You make learning languages so much easier.
Day by day Migaku is getting more advanced
I just started the Korean course and I'm loving it!
Good tool for language learning. Use it daily. Pretty poggers
I would like to thank @MigakuOfficial for their amazing Add-ons and tools, I'm a happy subscriber! Happy learning everyone!
I absolutely love the Migaku SRS it is so much cleaner than anki
Your product has saved me so much time sentence mining and watching things. Very valuable.
As a language learning approach, Migaku is compassionate and human. It is truly refreshing to have these philosophies be brought to the community.
Migaku gives this feeling of "I think can do it!!!" That why I love it.
I personally love it and have used even before official Korean support. If anyone plans on learning via immersion and Anki then they should really consider trying it.
You are a miracle. This is the most useful thing in the world.
I love all the stats you guys added. One of the reasons why I pay for Migaku is because I like seeing my known words and all that. I'll be excited to see your reader app come out, since right now Migaku has me at like 30k known words. Migaku seems like it's really close to being a one-stop-shop for language learning.
This is truly the future of language learning.
This is only the second review I’ve left on the App Store, and it’s going to be brief. I love Korean webtoons, but Kakao Webtoon stopped translating into Chinese. My choices were to read in Korean or give up on comics. I tried to read in Korean. I couldn’t do it. It sucked and I was bummed out. Then I started using Migaku. Well—I’ve already finished my first series in Korean 💪
I love the convenience of Migaku and I'm happy with what it gives me so its tots worth for me.
Makes tracking progress and learning new words easier :)
Been using the Migaku Toolset for a good while now and I'm amazed. This has literally changed my life by changing my daily routine. I love this so much and I'll recommend this to everyone I know who is also interested in language learning 😊
Doing Migaku with Korean its been like 3 months or so and I feel farther than I got in my first 3 years of traditional study in Japanese, I really feel like immersion and meaningful monolingual lookups gives you a deep appreciation for the language.
I'm quite impressed with the Korean fundamentals course so far… When I'm presented with information in the Korean course, it feels like I am given just enough to not be overwhelmed, and I'm given clear expectations for what I should be doing with that information.
Thanks so much! I'm really enjoying the new card types. I also feel myself improving even more with phrases instead of individual words.
This is seriously next level. You can obviously tell this was made for people who wanted these tools when they were learning a specific language. I’m sold 100%
I just love this language learning toolset...
The essential app for anyone seriously wanting to learn a language, period.
FAQ
Migaku makes learning Korean from K-dramas, YouTube videos, and Viki shows incredibly easy. That process looks like this:
- Parse → Select a video on Netflix, Disney+, Viki, or YouTube with the Migaku Browser Extension enabled. Migaku will make the subtitles interactive and predict how difficult your show will be, given the amount of Korean words you currently know.
- Look up → Enjoy the show! When you come across unknown words in the subtitles, click on them. Migaku will show you what they mean and how natives pronounce them. If you don’t understand the line of dialogue, Migaku can translate it and provide an AI breakdown for you..
- Flashcards → If you decide you want to learn a word, you can make a flashcard out of it with just one click. Flashcards created in Migaku contain the selected word, the sentence it appears in, a recording of a native speaker saying the word, the dialogue’s audio snippet from your show, and a screenshot from your show.
- Review → Migaku will keep track of how well you remember each word. With this information, we’ll prepare a custom learning schedule, taking into account your performance with each word. We’ll periodically nudge you to review—and, before long, you’ll remember the word.
Yes, Migaku offers comprehensive Korean fundamentals courses perfect for absolute beginners! We currently offer two Korean courses:
- Migaku Korean Fundamentals → Learn how to read each hangul (the Korean alphabet), how to correctly pronounce each sound in Korean, and the various situations in which hangul undergo shifts in pronunciation; includes many videos and audio recordings from native Korean speakers
- Migaku Korean Academy → Learn the most common ~1,300 vocabulary words and over 330 common Korean grammatical structures
Migaku's innovative OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool turns everyday moments into Korean learning opportunities. You can capture text from K-pop album covers, Korean restaurant menus, street signs, packaging, or even Korean webtoons and instantly convert them into learning material.
The OCR feature is built directly into Migaku’s iOS and Android app, so this feature is particularly useful for those who who regularly encounter Korean text in their daily life—or those who are learning with a physical textbook but would like to make digital learning resources.
The Migaku Chrome Browser Extension does not currently have an OCR feature, and the Migaku iOS/Android app does not yet have the ability to detect text in images and web pages.
Having said this, Korean Webtoons can be read with Migaku like this:
- Obtain a desktop-based OCR software, such as TextSniper for Mac or PowerToys for Windows
- Open two web browsers: your webtoon on the left half of your screen, the Migaku Clipboard on the right side of your screen (Chrome Toolbar → Migaku Extension → Clipboard)
- Use the OCR software to scan speech bubbles in your webtoon
- Migaku will automatically detect that your system clipboard has updated, then paste your system clipboard contents into the Migaku Clipboard
With this workflow, words in webtoons can be looked up in roughly a second.
Most apps on the market are for language learning hobbyists—people who are interested in learning Korean, but don’t really have any pressing need to actually do so. Traditional apps focus on accessibility, enabling anyone and everyone to pick up bits and pieces of Korean.
Most apps stop there, and most learners never learn more than “bits and pieces” of Korean. Migaku is not like those apps.
Migaku’s target audience are people who really want to learn Korean—people who aren’t content to know just “annyeong haseyo” or “sarang haeyo”.
Depending on where you’re currently at:
- Beginners → If you know no Korean, you can start with our courses, discussed in FAQ #2. Our data-driven courses teach the specific words and grammar points you need to know to begin exploring real Korean media. At a pace of 10 flashcards per day, going from “zero Korean” to “approaching intermediate” takes about 6 months with Migaku.
- Intermediate → Migaku’s toolset will function as training wheels. Watch k-dramas, read webtoons, listen to K-pop, browse social media, and generally do whatever you enjoy doing. With the ability to immediately look up words and translate sentences, you’ll be surprised at how independently you can navigate Korean content.
- Advanced → Even though you no longer need support in Korean, Migaku will make your life easier. Look up those random new words without changing tabs, and make flashcards of useful looking words in less than a second.
With Migaku’s immersion approach, you’ll make real Korean progress by learning with real Korean media. It’s much more effective than a dry textbook you open twice a week at Korean class.
We won’t name names, but most Korean courses on the internet—even the quite popular ones—are sort of a pain to navigate. They have too little information or too much and either don’t come with no supplemental learning materials or come with things that are twenty years old.
Migaku’s Korean course is different. Namely, it’s:
- Convenient → Flashcard-based, our course can be done entirely on your phone
- Carefully curated → You’ll learn the specific 1,300 Korean words you need to know to recognize 80% of the words you come across in Korean shows
- Streamlined → Every flashcard introduces only a single new word or grammar point, so you’re always learning but never overwhelmed
We’ve forged an incredibly optimized path from zero to intermediate Korean and backed it up with spaced repetition to ensure you retain the things you learn.
If you open Migaku each day and learn 10 new flashcards, you’ll be ready to begin exploring Korean dramas in Korean in about six months.
That’s what makes Migaku’s Korean course different than the other Korean learning apps on the market.
Migaku intelligently tracks all the Korean words you've learned (either automatically via flashcard performance or manually via your indication that you know a particular word) and uses this data to create personalized Korean comprehension scores for content you browse online. This system tells you whether a particular K-drama, YouTube video, or Korean article will likely be easy, hard, or suitable for your current Korean level.
Your progress is visibly displayed, providing tangible evidence of how your Korean skills are developing.
Migaku offers comprehensive Korean learning starting at $10 USD per month:
- Migaku Standard → $10 monthly / $96 yearly
- Migaku EA → $15 monthly / $144 yearly
- Migaku Lifetime → $499, one-time payment
Any Migaku subscription provides you with unlimited access to the platform’s suite of features—the word-lookup system, one-click flashcard creation, spaced repetition studying, progress tracking, beginner courses, and more. An EA (Early Access) subscription allows users to begin using new features before they are made available to the general public.
To subscribe, or to see which features are currently in EA, see Migaku's pricing page.
